April 2010

Well, our family had two very significant passages during April. On April 20, 2010, my grandmother, Lucile Longview, passed away at the age of 99. She was such a strong influence on my life and I feel lucky that Macie and Caroline got to meet her and spend time with her, even in the last week of her life. They brought her stuffed animals and touched her face and told her they loved her. It was very sweet. She was surrounded by her three children when she died and left this world peacefully.

Only eight days later, Mike's parents called to say that his step-grandmother, Mary B., had passed away on April 28, 2010. Mary B. Copeland was 87 and was just a sweet and peaceful soul. She loved spending time with Macie and Caroline and had a lot of fun showing them around her new Assisted Living home at Christmas in Atlanta. Because she was doing so well just four months ago, I think we felt somewhat surprised at her death. We knew she's been declining sharply, but it was hard to imagine after seeing her so full of life so recently. She just knew it was her time and also left this world peacefully.

It's definitely been a time of reflection and gratitude for our family over the last few weeks, thinking about these amazing women. When the girls were born, three of their their great-grandmothers were alive and they got to meet and spend time with each one. It is sad and hard to believe that in eight months, Mildred, Lucile, and Mary B. are no longer with us. They will be sorely missed and it makes us cherish the wonderful family of which we are a part.

Tulips with all the grandparents!

While Mimi and Papa were visiting, we took them up to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and braved the winds to walk around in the gorgeous fields of tulips. My parents drove down from Bellingham to meet us. Beautiful pictures!

Easter with Mimi, Papa, Cici, Tony, Gabe, and Jon

We had a great Easter - opening Easter baskets from Mimi and Papa (complete with ears and bunnies!), going to my sister's church in Monroe, having two Easter Egg Hunts in their backyard, and eating a delicious ham dinner in their NEW house! More pictures are coming, so check back in a few days (our camera unfortunately took it's last picture on Saturday, so these photo credits go to Charlie/Papa and some are on their way from my sis....)

Gabe, helping Macie "hunt" - - I wonder how he thought she could reach that egg when he hid it :)

Mimi and Papa come visit!

OH MY GOODNESS, we were soooo excited for Mimi and Papa's arrival - - the girls insisted on wearing their pigtails and getting them to read to them before bed.

The next morning, we took them to our favorite park, but could only stand the wind for a few minutes before we made our way to Top Pot and the library....

After naps, we dyed some Easter eggs (well, the grown-ups tried to, anyway, and pretty much failed)

and then watched the basketball game! Go Butler! Caroline's asking Papa what a foul shot is....
