Great Grandma Mary B.'s Life

Mary Barker Whitlock Copeland passed away April 29, 2010. She was born in Tobaccoville, Virginia on June 30, 1923 to Ruth Fowlkes Whitlock and Ralph Brackett Whitlock. When she was three years old her family moved to Atlanta where she attended R.L. Hope Elementary School and North Fulton High School.

Mary attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She married Howell Silvey Copeland, Jr. in 1946 at Peachtree Christian Church. She loved bowling and was a member of a league for over 20 years. She has been a member of The Gardeners Club of Atlanta since 1958. She was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Philip for many years before joining Peachtree Presbyterian Church in the 1980’s.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howell Silvey Copeland, Jr. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph W. Whitlock.

Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving children and their families: Howell S. “Buddy” Copeland, III (Brenda), Carol Smith (Charlie) and Ginny Bowden (Larry), all of Atlanta; Grandchildren: Brittany Scott (Doug), Kathryn McGraw (Michael), Brock Woodson, Clint Woodson, and Melissa Tincknell (Matthew); Step grandchildren: Mike Smith (Sarah), Scott Bowden and Dustin Bowden; Great grandchildren: Anna Kathryn Scott and Meredith Scott; Step great grandchildren: Macie Smith and Caroline Smith and several nieces, nephews and friends as well as her beloved dog, Missy.

Sarah... I am sorry for both of your families losses recently! What a tough thing to have one family member pass away, but two in such a short time, wow! I am sorry and will keep you and your family in my thoughts
